Giant lava breathing tarantulas – Lavalantulas – erupt out of ancient volcanos in the Santa Monica Mountains, raining death and destruction upon Los Angeles. With the City of Angels on the verge of incineration, only a washed up ‘90s action hero actor stands in the way of this monstrous swarm of bloodthirsty creatures who burn their victims alive.

Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
O2D It doesn't matter if you could have made better special effects in your basement, this movie is actually pretty good. There's lot's of action and plenty of silliness. I loved that the road was so hot it melted car tires but not shoes. See it.
one-nine-eighty Wow! This is like Police Academy 12 vs awful CGI spiders who shoot lava. If you like cheesy films this is right up there with other Sy-Fy/ Horror channel classics, honestly! Guttenberg plays a down on his luck, over the hill actor, who now specialises in extremely low budget horror and disaster films - like the film you are watching. Soon chaos ensues as lava begins to explode from the ground all around him releasing lava spiders, or lavalantuas, if you like. Using all his acting experience Guttenberg sets about rescuing his family and escaping the unfolding horror. With OTT slapstick, cheesy narrative and acting, tongue in cheek and camp performances all around, terrible CGI, and a story which has already been previously exhausted.... meh, just sit back and prepare to ignore your brain for an hour and half. Don't expect an award winning film!
geozel I didn't have too high expectations when I started this movie. I kinda like SyFy movies when I want to be entertained without too much brainstorming. :) I watched Police Academy over and over again when I was a kid and seeing Steve Guttenberg and the others again laughing at themselves and being ironic was so much fun. Although the story itself is very simple, the actors filled the whole atmosphere with so much energy and joy that it would be hard not to enjoy the movie. I also have arachnophobia so I had a couple of scares during the movie but in a good way. Altogether it was 85 minutes well spent and I really enjoyed it during the whole time. SyFy nailed it this time. Kudos guys!
missduffy-77634 I admit that I am not a typical SYFY channel watcher, nor much of a horror movie buff. I tuned in to see my young friend, Diana Hopper (Jordan) on screen. I was not sure what to expect. What I got was a lot of fun, with good acting, and subtle and not so subtle references to other movies. The monsters were not really scary and there was no doubt that Guttenberg was going to save the day. I thoroughly enjoyed Lavalantula. It was great to see Michael Winslow once again, doing what he does best and making us laugh, in spite of the danger. The man could read the phone book and I would probably crack up. Nia Peeples has grown older, but she looked fabulous. She has come a long way since her "Fame" days. Lavalantula was more entertaining than most of the big screen movies that I have seen lately.
