The Ledge Audience Reviews

BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
GurlyIamBeach Instant Favorite.
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
lojitsu A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."The Ledge" (R - 2011 - US)Sub-Genre: Thriller/PsychoMy Score: 7.1Cast=9 Acting=8 Plot=6 Ending=7 Story=8 Scare=6 Jump=2 F/X=7 Thrill=9 Psycho=9A police officer looks to talk down a young man lured by his lover's husband to the ledge of a high rise, where he has one hour to contemplate a fateful decision. "Love the Sinner, hate the sin?" What starts as a love affair gone wrong turns out to be a philosophical debate about faith and the afterlife. It is not so much a horror movie, but a rare gem as a psychological thriller. You may not jump for joy and pound your fist, but sit in quiet reflection or debate this with your movie watching partner when it's over. If you are looking for an old fashioned, edge-of-your-seat thriller...this IFC release is worth a watch for sure!!
nishantu I started watching the movie with little or no expectation but i have to admit i was surprised.Movies not good as this are rated highly and get special mention but i am shocked to see the bad reviews this film has got. This is definitely not your top notch thriller/drama but its definitely one of those which you cant miss .The movie has so much to offer -Looks like we believe in god as per our convenience .The movie doesn't try to preach you or make you believe a thing in a certain way. The storytelling bounces around a bit which I love, it allows you to make assumptions and try to figure everything out before its revealed. The story is fast paced and keep you wondering as to whats next.Watch it you wont be disappointed.
CelluloidDog To err is human.A quiet gem of a movie in days of violence, CGI and sensationalism. The Ledge is a quiet film without much effects but focuses on a good script, solid screenplay and fine acting. All the characters in this film have flaws: Gavin (played by Charlie Hunnam) is an easy-going atheist who lives day by day, Joe Harris played by Patrick Wilson) is the born-again who lives for an ideal, Shana Harris (played by Liv Tyler) is a woman lost, found again and looking for love. What are the character flaws? Gavin made a mistake he regretted in his earlier marriage, Joe ruined his life earlier, and Shana was lost too. Detective Hollis Lucetti (Terrance Howard) also has a problem, his wife Angela's infidelity. Now I can't say more and lead you to spoilers but some some people point out the film is about fundamentalism vs atheism but that's the plot. The theme is about being human and love makes us make mistakes. We rationalize and talk our way out of doing wrong but in the end, we make mistakes and need forgiveness from others. Gavin doesn't want to make another mistake for someone he loves, so he is forced into his decision. Shana and Joe don't appear to have much in common but their lives were lost before finding God. Shana and Gavin make the mistake of the affair and literal mistake of not being so discreet. Joe's views are so constrictive he acts like the vengeful God of the Old Testaments leading him to a destructive act. At the end of the day, Hollis has to return home. He is angry, but then he realizes love can drive one to err. He has to move on, accept what has happened and realize, perhaps it's all not that bad. Real score: 7.6-7.8/10. The Ledge is a film that, yes, made me cry a bit. For Shana and Hollis. You are happy his wife Angela is given redemption. Forgiveness starts somewhere. The Ledge is the kind of film that probably should make the Top 10 Films of the Year but not a masterpiece. It's strength is in the script and acting, especially Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson. Directing, cinematography and screenplay are average which holds it back. But unlike many recent films, there's no flashy flashback, annoying tinted lenses (like blue for horror and scifi or yellowed for period films), or special effects. Just a simple camera. Quite old school but effective.A pleasant surprise with thoughtful, psychological impact.
Raul Faust Since I'm an atheist who happens to be very interested in discussions involving religions, "The Ledge" really seemed attractive. Gavin is about the jump out of a building, in order to save a girl that he finally discovers he loves. The police officer that tries to impede him from doing that is a man who has family issues, mainly because he finds out that his kids aren't from his gene, if you know what I mean. The movie tells the story of them about, making you understand why they're there, what happened in their lives and what is about to happen. The story is very original, but sometimes feels over-the-top; I mean, I sincerely don't believe that Gavin would kill himself for that reason. Also, he looks to calm for someone who is about to commit suicide. Psychiatrist may understand what I mean. On the other hand, photography direction is BEAUTIFUL, delivering a nostalgic atmosphere. If the story wasn't so unrealistic and unlikely, this would've been a much better film. However, it's just a regular one, interesting in some aspects.
